Fishing On The 4th

Well today is a great day. It's the day of our country's independence. This day is full of family, friends, food, fireworks, and in my case fishing. Marissa and I decided we were going to head out and do some fly fishing in the morning before we had to get ready for parties and fireworks.

So we headed out to that stream that pisses me off so much. The stream where the trout jump out of the water high enough for you to probably catch them with your hands. The stream where every fly you throw out for them must not be good enough. The stream where the fish see you and laugh when your leaving in frustration and sadness. The stream I'm going to call The Devil Stream.

For the past week we have hit that stream up with determination. We started off throwing dry flies. Then moved to wet flies. Then lastly to nymphs. When we got home from this stream we checked all of our boxes looking for the perfect fly. We came up with strategies on how to catch some fish out of The Devil Stream. So today we took another whack at it. We both started off with red midges (a fly I came up with one night while sitting at the vise.) The trout would get a hold of that fly and as soon as you felt the tug and pull of the trout taking off with it; and you try to set the hook thinking to yourself "finally!", the trout would spit it out like it was some kind of nasty bug and swim away.

We tried prince nymphs, soft hackle wet flies, and varies colors of midges they just take it and spit it back out. So I decided to move down stream a little bit more maybe I could get better luck. We were moving down stream when I spotted a big brown moving upstream. I threw a fly at it about 2 yards up ahead of it. It saw the fly went up ate it then spit the damn thing back out. I was so pissed I could have broke my rod in half, but I kept fishing. We fished for about 2 more hours then called it quits.

But we did make a promise to ourselves. By the end of this summer we are going to catch one trout each. One of those demon trout. One of those fish from Satan. From The Devil Stream.
