This weekend wasn't like any other weekend. I didn't sit around all day reading about fly fishing, watching fly fishing videos, are going to the stream by myself. This weekend was a very special weekend, the weekend I got to spend some time fly fishing with my girlfriend Marissa.
I was teaching her how to fly fish at our favorite spot on Kettle Creek. We had planned this out three weeks before she got home from college and we were both excited to get on the water together.
We started the day off by stopping by our favorite fly shop Kettle Creek Tackle Shop and picked up a couple of Letort Crickets and mice patterns and off we went. As we got out there and started to walk down to the stream we could hear some elk bugles in the distance. We tried to talk quietly hoping that they would come close enough to us on the water so I could snap a picture, but it wasn't in our favor. I twas a slow morning we tried going after some smallmouth with a couple poppers. I caught a 6" smallie. Then I tied on one of the crickets; and let me tell you it worked. I caught a 13" rainbow trout and a 13" brown.
We fished that part of the creek for a little while then decided to move downstream for some bigger trout. We went down along the spill way of the Kettle Creek Dam, but no trout. We fished for about and hour or two before dark and we hooked into two small carp about 4 inches.
So even though we didn't catch a ton of fish, the trip went as planned. We got to see each other after a month of Marissa being gone and off to college. We hooked on to all sorts of fish. And we even got to enjoy a nice lunch on our home water of Kettle Creek.
It was a beautiful day and I will never forget that when your away from someone for months and month at a time every little second and every little memory shouldn't be taken for granite. I cherish the moments I get to spend time with Marissa. And spending the little time we have on the water with fly rods in our hands and hooking fish make it even better.
So here are some pictures of the fish we caught:
